Toph Beifong is a central character from the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, a fantasy adventure set in a world where certain people can control, or “bend,” one of the four elements: earth, water, fire, or air. The world is divided into nations based on these elements, and the balance between them is maintained by a single person called the Avatar, who can master all four. Toph is an earthbender, meaning she controls rock, soil, and metal, and she is widely considered one of the most powerful benders in the entire setting. What makes her especially unique is that she was born blind, but instead of limiting her, this led her to develop an ability called seismic sense, which allows her to “see” by feeling vibrations through the ground. In response, she secretly trained herself to become strong, eventually becoming a champion underground fighter before joining the main heroes of the story.
