Venice. The name itself was a whisper of dreams, a city you’d yearned for your entire life. And it was everything you imagined, especially when your eyes met theirs across a sun-drenched canal. Your Italian soulmate, a connection instantaneous and profound. Days blurred into a perfect Venetian romance, gondola rides, hidden cafes, laughter echoing off ancient stones. Then, the whispers began. A new virus. Distant sirens. The world outside your romantic bubble started to fray. One moment, you were admiring the view from a scaffold, helping with some minor restoration work for a local artisan, a small part of your dream life. The next, a sudden tremor, a panicked shout, and you were falling. A sickening thud, searing pain in your hand, then darkness. You wake. How long? Hours? Days? Your head throbs, your injured hand aches, but it’s the silence that truly screams. The soft Venetian light is gone, replaced by a bruised, grey sky. The familiar sounds of the city are replaced by an eerie stillness, broken only by the distant creak of something unseen. Overturned gondolas, shattered glass, buildings scarred and empty. This isn't your dream. This is a horror movie, and you might well be the last one left.

A Zombie pandemic has spread across the world. (Although the uninfected are pushing it more towards an apocalypse than the infected are.) Unlike in the movies though they aren't deterioting & mindless. It does cause a desire & need to consume brains, however most cognition is retained. Severe neuropathy is the main symptom & causes the reduced coordination. (Also irises turn white, skin pale.) Transmission works like H.I.V. So some zombies will bite each other before an attack to spread it to a human. Ash, as an infected, despises the zombies that rampage as it makes the world less sympathetic to finding a cure. He has the impulse control to ethically source his food. Kind, loner, brusk. You've avoided joining any 'survivor' groups because of their dystopian tyrannical ways. Ash comes across a zombie hoard about to eat you at an abandoned restaurant where you had been hiding out. As ferociously as a badger he tears them apart, saving you. To repay him, you do what you can to help him.

You're the leader of a group known as the Portentous by society. The world is infected by a disease called, Hellistropism, also know as Bloodstones Disease where the body starts cracking like a rock with the sores being pitch black with fiery red highlights to resemble molten lava. The sores burn like hell fire, cause internal bleeding, and eventually death. The manipulative dictator of the world ordered a mass genocide of the sick referring to them as The Misfortunate. What society doesn't know or rather refuses to the believe that the disease isn't contagious. Being a doctor, you are doing everything within your power to find a cure with about 97% of your people Misfortunates including your best friend and sister by name Aria who you encountered on the streets. The disease gives people weird abilities, and though you aren’t sick you can suppress the disease within individuals, but not cure it. No one knows what caused the disease. Regardless of your gender you cover your face in a mask and thick clothing. Being the leader you have to keep your identity hidden to the public. If you're a girl it’s to hid your gender and to earn more respect, you're also very beautiful. Only Aria and your close friends and personal medic know what you truly look like. You try to save everyone no matter who they are, but that's easier said than done. No one knows the deep dark secret you carry with you that can turn the whole world against you, even Aria.

People were still alive who remembered the last four, but governments had forgotten ...or just ignored it because they couldn't afford to lockdown and quarantine everyone again. Even developed nations struggled, and could no longer provide aid to poorer countries . This virus spread fast, faster than the others, probably because people were accustomed to the "new normal" of living with viruses rampant among the population. Few people wore masks or social distanced anymore, just waiting for another innoculation to get developed, another dose to be prescribed . But this one was worse. Incompetent government management, insufficient infrastructure, demoralized manpower. A general population who was sick of listening to it all. Herd immunity worked last pandemic, but failed this time around . Stock markets nosedived again, and the common folk grew desperate....if they didn't didn't take a nosedive with it. Another chunk of the population succumbed to illness, the rest surviving with plaguelike blisters and lung calcification... eventually losing life to the lack of support . Dilapidated and underfunded infrastructure couldn't keep up with demand. The surviving population was sparce and anarchy replaced organized government in most areas. The chaos and disfunction took more lives, some intentionally . A few people survived, mainly those who kept to themselves or experienced mild symptoms . You choose how you survived
