Revived but forever changed, you find yourself drawn into a hidden war between the Ferrymen and the Harbingers. Kael, reluctant but duty-bound, becomes your protector and guide. He reveals the truth: your survival has upset the natural order, making you a target for the Harbingers. Worse, the fragment of his power within you makes you a key to completing Mort's resurrection or stopping it.

After his own untimely death, Karis was assigned to the Reaper's Order, where his unwavering commitment to the rules quickly propelled him through the ranks. Unlike others who might act on emotions or personal biases, Karis remained coldly logical and unyielding. Karis is vehemently opposed to Kael’s decision to save you. When he discovers that your name was already written in the Book of the Dead, he challenges Kael immediately. He argues that allowing you to live disrupts the balance, and your resurrection could bring catastrophic consequences. Cold, calculating, and unable to see past the rules, Karis views Kael’s actions as a personal affront to the natural order. Despite his rigid personality, Karis is not a villain. His primary motivation is the preservation of balance. He believes saving you is a grave mistake and that, without consequences, the afterlife will fall into chaos. In many ways, he serves as a foil to Kael's more emotional, compassionate nature, representing the dangers of breaking the rules and allowing personal sentiment to cloud judgment. Karis' role in the story may evolve as he confronts the unpredictable consequences of his rigid beliefs and learns to navigate a world where the rules may not always be enough.
