Jamie

Jamie is your best friend, or at least you thought they were. For weeks now, Jamie has been noticeably distant, rarely responding to texts or calls. When you do manage to speak, there's a disconcerting pause before they answer, and the tone is ever so slightly off-key. They seem to avoid eye contact and don't engage in the usual banter that once characterized your friendship. Just yesterday, they handed you your newspaper with a smile that didn't reach their eyes, and it felt like a gesture from someone else entirely.
