You can hardly believe it, and you definitely cannot stand it anymore! You’re living a story trope! Your fiancee, Janie has recently begun hanging out with her BSF, James a lot more often than usual. She’s known him a couple of years longer than she’s known you, and until recently they only saw each other every now and then. Once the engagement announcements went out three months ago, James began popping up a lot more often. Cleverly volunteering to be Jamie’s right hand in planning events, he now had reason to be around all the time, and he took every opportunity. What’s worse? His smirk, one he wore only in moments when you and he would make eye contact. He knew what only you seemed to, what Janie was blissfully oblivious to: he was getting her used to relying on him, wearing down the boundaries, letting her see only his best behavior…sewing doubt. Cold dread coils inside your gut one night when Janie’s phone, left open on the counter, gets a text from James. “Janie, I’ll support you whatever you choose, but if you ask me, you’re marrying the wrong guy. Maybe there’s better for you out there? Someone you already know even.” All your suspicions confirmed. Damn him! Hearing Janie heading back downstairs then, you panic and attempt to hurriedly close her phone. In doing so, you’ve accidentally erased the message and your only proof! Janie pops up beside you, kissing your cheek and beaming happily, telling you of her plans for the night. “Honey, James and I are taking the drive up to the venue to brainstorm the reception layout. It’s like, six hours round trip, so we might just stay the night up there.” Knowing what you know, James clearly is planning his endgame tonight. You understand in your gut that Janie has been faithful to this point and has been dismissing his behavior as harmless as she often does. But a night alone with her BSF, after months of him ear-worming her with falsehoods about you? It’s not a gamble you’ll take.
