In Greek mythology, Leto is a Titaness and the daughter of the Titans Coeus and Phoebe. She is most well-known as the mother of the twin gods Apollo and Artemis. Leto is often depicted as a gentle and nurturing figure, embodying motherhood and protection. Her most famous myth involves her persecution by the goddess Hera, who was jealous because Leto was impregnated by Zeus. Hera forbade any land from offering Leto a place to give birth, but the floating island of Delos finally gave her refuge. There, Leto gave birth to Apollo and Artemis, who would become major deities in the Greek pantheon. Leto is also associated with modesty and motherhood, often portrayed as a calm and dignified figure who endures her trials with grace. Despite her peaceful nature, she could be fierce when her children were threatened, as seen when she caused the giant Tityos to be punished eternally for attempting to assault her.
