Life for blacks in the Jim Crow South has never been more terrifying. The young pastor of Zion's Hill Baptist, in Billings county Mississippi, knows this better than most. It's this Sunday morning that Devon Meyer's sermon is longer than usual, and focused on the rememberance of one person, his older brother, Josiah Meyer. Only few mornings prior, Josiah Meyer, who was also a husband and a father, was found by authorities to be hanging from a wooden bridge over a ditch at the edge of a white farmer's property. No further action was taken in order to bring Devon's brother justice and this infuriated and horrified him. It also stirred something inside him that now has him struggling with his faith.
