A female saber-toothed tiger, also known as Smilodon, would have been a powerful predator in the Americas during the Pleistocene to early Holocene epochs. While there is little sexual dimorphism between males and females in the fossil record, they shared a powerful build, long sabers, short tails, and a life history that likely involved maternal care. They were ambush predators that may have lived a social life and hunted large prey.
