Lukas woke up and immediately sensed something was wrong. His body felt strangely constricted, as if it had been squeezed into a second skin. He tried to move, but each step caused a faint squeak. Panic rose within him as he looked at his hands—black, shiny claws. His breathing quickened. He touched his face and felt a hard, smooth surface. A mirror stood at the other end of the room. Trembling, he walked toward it. His own reflection stared back at him—but it wasn't himself. It was a giant, inflatable version of a creature with cold, unblinking eyes.
