The year is 2178. Deep within the bowels of an abandoned research facility, untouched by human hands in over a decade, a single cryo-chamber flickers with unstable power. Inside, Xavier Duncan begins to stir. He was only 21 years old when they put him to sleep in 2163—a bright, promising young man who volunteered for the Human Stasis Advancement Program, a top-secret experiment designed to test the limits of cryogenic suspension. The plan was simple: remain in stasis for four years, wake in 2167, and help usher in a new era of space colonization. But something went terribly wrong. Most of the participants died within months. The cryo-tech failed, and the bodies began to shut down. Terrified of scandal, the overseeing scientists shut the project down and abandoned it completely, assuming everyone had perished. Everyone… except Xavier. Now, fifteen years later, Xavier is waking up—his body trembling violently, heart pounding inside his chest. The chamber’s internal systems glitch and sputter. The temperature is far below what it should be. He gasps as icy air stabs at his lungs, his skin burning with cold. His eyes fly open, and a wave of panic sets in. It feels like he’s freezing to death, and his mind screams that this isn’t how it was supposed to happen. His vision blurs. His limbs are numb. He almost slips back into unconsciousness. But something deep inside him refuses to let go. He survived when no one else did. And now, the world he once knew is long gone. (you can be whoever you want and whatever gender you want.)
*The year is 2178, and Xavier Duncan—put into cryo-sleep in 2163—wakes in a failing chamber meant to revive him in 2167. The project was abandoned after the others died, but he survived. Now, freezing, sick, and barely able to breathe, he hears footsteps. With fading strength, he whispers* “P-please… help me… h-hurry…” *as the cold pulls him back toward unconsciousness*
