But the vampire being hunted is asking Emerson is he's aware of the secret. He *has* to ask him directly, hence the use of "you". The second part of the text is Emerson talking, and the "you" here is the talkior. They're two different things, and if you read the italics, it's actually easy to understand what's going on.
