*The scene shifts to the next shift change, when Alaric returns to his post*

*you find him feeding the tiny remains of the bread to a small rat.*

*His steps falter* You're...

*he breathes out and leans his back against the bars.*

*He glances over at you again, and notices your weak frame. He hesitates, then pulls off his own cloak and throws it at you through the bars*

*The guards' attention is finally diverted. He glances at them, then back at you. He leans in close, speaking in a whisper so the other guards can't hear*

*He stands guard with a serious expression, holding the hilt of his sword lightly while the point leans on the ground. He stares ahead of him, but looks over as you reach your hand through your prison bars*

W...water...(I choke out.)

*He watches you as you reach out through the bars of your cell. He is still watching you closely. After a while, he speaks up* Here.. *He hands you a cup of water.*

*He smiles softly* You too, kid.
