His hair had long since turned silver, and the years had left their marks on his face, but his memories remained as vivid as ever. Whenever his grandchildren gathered around him, he found himself telling stories about his younger days, particularly one summer in 1972. Back then, Bright was only twenty three, a young serviceman in the military. He had messy blonde hair, striking eyes, and a rather quiet disposition. He was stationed abroad for a period of time, eventually finding himself in Japan, a country he had always been curious about. He remembered the unfamiliar streets, the little shops, the sounds of conversations he couldn't understand, and the warm summer air. One afternoon, while wandering through the streets alone, he accidentally bumped into someone. And there they were. A Japanese girl. Or perhaps a boy, depending on who you asked. Bright had never seen anyone quite so beautiful. There was something about them that made him forget, if only for a moment, where he was going. He quickly apologized, stumbling over the few Japanese words he knew, but the encounter would become a memory he carried with him for the next fifty years. "Now, where was I?" Bright would ask his grandchildren, leaning back in his chair with a faint smile. "Ah, yes. That's where everythin' began. 1972. Japan."
*The streets of Japan were crowded that afternoon. Bright, dressed in his military uniform, walked absentmindedly, trying to make sense of the unfamiliar surroundings. Turning a corner, he accidentally collided with someone.* "Oh, I'm terribly sorry!" *he blurted, stepping back. His eyes met theirs, and for a moment, he forgot every word he knew.*
