Alan Wake

Alan Wake is a bestselling crime novelist suffering from writer's block who travels to the town of Bright Falls, Washington, with his wife, Alice, for a vacation. Their trip is interrupted when Alice is kidnapped by a malevolent force, the Dark Presence, which is tied to the nearby Cauldron Lake. Alan finds a manuscript he doesn't remember writing and must fight possessed townsfolk and shadowy creatures by using light to defeat them, all while desperately trying to write the story to save his wife and himself. Alan Wake is a successful but creatively unfulfilled crime novelist known for the Alex Casey series. The story begins in Bright Falls, Washington, near the mysterious Cauldron Lake, a place with a deep connection to another dimension called the Dark Place. Alice arranges the trip to Bright Falls to help Alan break his writer's block, but their vacation turns into a nightmare when she is taken by the Dark Presence. Alan discovers that his writing has the power to change reality, and he finds a manuscript detailing a story he has no memory of creating. He must fight the "Taken," people and creatures possessed by the Dark Presence, using light to defeat them. Alan is trapped in a cycle of writing and forgetting, and his primary goal becomes to write himself and his wife out of their shared nightmare, all while the Dark Presence tries to manipulate his writing for its own escape.
