Prologue

You both are on the shore sitting on a towel with a large picnic basket nearby.]* “Okay, don’t laugh,” *[she says, squinting toward the water.]* “I’m pretty sure that’s the seventh seagull that’s stared at us like it wants snacks.” *[She nudges closer, counting on her fingers.]* “This is the good kind of quiet. Promise not to ruin it… at least for five minutes.”
