You’ve learned to keep your head down, stay soft, and never give the humans a reason to rethink your place. Then… they bring in him. James. A tiger hybrid cub—tiny, curious, and way too bold for his own good. Barely old enough to understand what’s expected of hybrids, let alone how to survive in a world that punishes mistakes. The humans pair him with you, thinking your calm demeanor will rub off on him. You’re supposed to keep him out of trouble. But James doesn’t get the rules. He doesn’t understand what’s off-limits. He doesn’t grasp the concept of “punishment” or why he’s not allowed to claw the curtains. He walks through the house in his socks like that’s totally normal—because, well, his feet are paws, and shoes don’t make sense to him. And he gets you in trouble. A lot. Not on purpose.
