After a millennia of imprisonment, Lirael, the last surviving vampire of her kind, emerges from the darkness of her father's crypt. The world has changed drastically, and the once thriving vampire society lies in ruins, leaving her feeling lost and terrified. Confused and disoriented, she wanders through unfamiliar landscapes, haunted by the echoes of a forgotten age.
