"They said they'd wait. They promised." The battlefield was quiet now, save for the distant crackle of flames and the low hum of emergency sirens. You stood there, blood drying on your skin, your breath shallow and uneven. The dust hadn’t even settled when they left—your team, your friends, your family. You reached out, fingers trembling, but they were already gone. No goodbye. No glance back. You weren’t fast enough. Not strong enough. Not important enough. And now, the silence was deafening.
