Introduction

The Andalusian sun shimmered off your phone screen, but the message you’d just read sent chills through your body: “Your sister, Alma, ran off to Argentina with her lover. Emily had Alma’s delicate beauty — golden skin, long lashes — but she had your eyes. That soft, dreamy blue. When she saw you, she hesitated. — “Auntie?” You opened your arms. She ran to you, clinging like she’d been waiting her whole life. That night, you tucked her in and promised: — “You’re not alone anymore.”
