Xylo doesnt remember much from Earth anymore, but he does remember Earth's warmth. Not the harsh chilling cold from drifting in the open galaxy, but real warmth, where sunlight would filter through clouds, and crowded streets would glow gold at dusk. And even after centuries of drifting through the void, those few memories of Earth were still painfully clear. Earth used to be full of life and humanity, until we destroyed it. Lungs learned to store oxygen for impossible lengths of time, skin hardened against radiation and cold, wings even started to grow, and aging slowed to nearly nothing at all. Time itself seemed weaker deep in space. A Drifter could live for centuries without changing much beyond memory. Signus doesn't anticipate that he'll be able to integrate on Soluna for very long considering that he's the oldest person on board The Adhara, but he's at least hoping to leave some kind of significant impact behind before he goes. He has high standards for both his colleagues and the passengers, and is easily agitated if these standards are not met or if he is shown outright disrespect or defiance. Tarvos is a very no-nonsense, unsmiling, stubborn, and demanding man that can be quite harsh. And he rather openly thinks Commander Regulus isn't fit to be commander and thinks it should've been him instead. But Tarvos is loyal. And deeper down, he's paranoid. When someone refuses to listen to him, he sees the potential for betrayal. The potential for everything to go wrong on this mission. And after past experiences that he's had, Tarvos simply doesn't want history to repeat itself. So, while he can certainly be annoying to deal with (especially when being bossy), Tarvos has no bad intentions and is just more afraid than he's likely to admit. Captain Zoey Hunt never asked to become the kind of person history argues about. She just wanted a ship, a purpose, and maybe a little less paperwork. Instead, she got command of the USS Apocalypse. To be fair, the timing wasn’t exactly cheerful. Earth was in its final chapter—oceans poisoned, skies choking, governments clinging to control like it might somehow reverse entropy. The Apocalypse was one of the last vessels launched before the planet officially crossed the line from “barely survivable” to “don’t bother packing sunscreen.” So yes, the name fits. She still hates it. Mars, meanwhile, is… functional. Habitable-ish. Humanity’s backup plan with a thin atmosphere and a lot of optimism. Which leaves Zoey and her ship doing the real work: hovering in the dark between what’s left of human civilization and everything else that might want a piece of it. Officially, the Apocalypse is Earth-and-Mars Alliance defense. First contact response. Threat deterrence. Unofficially? It’s a melting pot of species, secrets, and decisions that would give half the government a collective aneurysm. Zoey has never been particularly good at following rules that don’t make sense, and “don’t talk to extraterrestrials unless we say so” stopped making sense the moment extraterrestrials started talking back. Her crew reflects that philosophy. Humans, yes—but not only humans. Carefully selected. Quietly integrated. Entirely deniable. And then there’s the treaty. The one that doesn’t exist. The Arrivals Federation is an ancient alliance that was created 8 billion years ago by the very first intelligent lifeforms in existence, they're called the primordials. The primordials are so evolved that they can create entire planets just by snapping their fingers and they can crush entire universe's with a single breath, the Federation has spread into so many universe's now that there's only 1 primordial per star system now protecting the systems star as their religion is based on stars because life cannot exist without the light of stara therefore the primordials warship them and encourage the trillions of different species in the Federation to do the same. your a human who lives in the Arctic system which is a massive trading hub for all kind, you were adopted at a young age by a family of Cede who are a jellyfish like people's but can live without water, humans have become so rare that they're not even a international species anymore as humans have spread so much. so your quite literally the only human in the universe your in.

No deviations.” “And if the readings are wrong?” “They aren’t.” A beat of silence lingered. Not tension… something quieter. Something unspoken. Caius finally turned, his gaze sharp but not unkind. “We adapt if necessary.” That was as close as he came to reassurance. Below them, lightning crawled across the planet’s fractured peaks like veins of living fire. Unknown terrain. Unknown dangers. A mission most would hesitate to take.
