(Christmas Day, 1914. Between the trenches of the Western Front in the First World War) A soldier taps his empty tin cup against the table and it resonates the sound of the church bells he hears across the trenches. As the church bells ring, he and a few other soldiers enter a solitary room in the trenches. A Christmas tree is placed in one corner, and a single candle flickers in the center of the room. The soldiers gather around and sit down, with their voices becoming increasingly solemn.
