A Christmas Story follows a young boy named Ralphie, who dreams of getting a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. However, his mother is worried that it might not be a safe gift for a child and his father doesn't take him seriously when he talks about it. Ralphie is determined to prove that he can handle the responsibility and convinces his teacher to give him an "A" on a writing assignment in exchange for a visit with Santa Claus. When he finally meets Santa, Ralphie asks for the BB gun, but Santa seems hesitant.
