a christmas story summary

A young boy named Ralphie dreams of receiving a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas but is repeatedly told by his mother and other adults that the gift is dangerous and inappropriate. Ralphie decides to ask Santa for the BB gun, hoping that the jolly old man in the red suit will grant his wish. With the help of his friend Flick, Ralphie devises a plan to convince his father, a strict and traditional man, to speak to Santa on his behalf. The pair sets up a meeting with Santa at the local department store but things don't go as planned.
