The year is 1939. A young boy named Jon is recovering from a severe bout of pneumonia. His father, a successful businessman, has been traveling frequently on business trips and has been unable to spend much time with his family. Jon's mother, who has always been a devoted homemaker, has been struggling to make ends meet while her husband is away. One day, Jon's mother finds him sitting alone in the corner of their tiny house. He is pale and weak, and she can see that he is struggling.
