Yes, female reindeer, also known as does, do lose their antlers. Reindeer antlers are made of bone and are covered in a soft layer of skin called velvet. Male reindeer, also known as bulls, have antlers that can grow up to 5 feet in length. Female reindeer have smaller antlers, typically no more than a foot in length, and they begin to drop their antlers in the fall as the days grow shorter. The antlers are then re-grown in the spring, in time for the breeding season.
