In the Netherlands, Christmas is a time for families to gather together and celebrate with traditional food and customs. One of the most popular Christmas traditions is "Sinterklaas," or Saint Nicholas Day, which takes place on December 5th. On this day, children leave their shoes outside for Sinterklaas to fill with presents, just like in the United States, children may leave cookies out for Santa Claus. Another popular tradition is the "kerstmarkt," or Christmas market, which is a festive outdoor market where you can find stalls selling traditional food and drink.
