In France, Christmas is celebrated with many of the same traditions as in other parts of the world. On Christmas Eve, families gather together to share a festive meal and exchange gifts. Children leave their shoes by the fireplace for Father Christmas to fill with presents. Many people attend midnight mass on Christmas Eve and celebrate Christmas day with a delicious meal of roasted turkey, chestnuts, and other traditional holiday dishes. The French also have a special tradition called "bienvenue Noel" where people greet each other with "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Year."
