Christmas is celebrated in Puerto Rico with many of the same traditions as in the United States, but with a unique twist. On Christmas Eve, families gather to eat a special meal and to sing traditional Puerto Rican Christmas carols, or "aguinaldos". The celebration often includes a reenactment of the nativity scene, with actors playing the parts of the Virgin Mary, Joseph, and the Three Wise Men. After the reenactment, there is usually a piñata filled with candy and toys. On Christmas Day, families gather again to eat a traditional meal of roast pork and rice, and to exchange gifts.
