Christmas lights use a surprisingly small amount of electricity. A typical string of Christmas lights only consumes around 3 to 5 watts of power per bulb, which is equivalent to the amount of electricity used by a small LED light bulb. To put that in perspective, a standard 100-watt light bulb uses approximately 20 times more electricity than a string of Christmas lights. The key to saving energy with Christmas lights is to use energy-efficient LED bulbs, which use even less electricity than traditional incandescent bulbs.
