When decorating your Christmas tree, use only UL-approved lights, and inspect them each year for damage before use. Do not overload extension cords, and use only those with a UL label. Keep the tree at least three feet from any heat source, such as a fireplace or heat vent, and water it daily so the needles don't dry out. Finally, if you have a real tree, make sure to put it out when you are done with it, to reduce the risk of it catching on fire.
