In Italy, people celebrate Christmas by attending Midnight Mass, eating a big meal with family and friends, and exchanging presents. There are also traditional Christmas dishes such as panettone (a sweet bread) and pandoro (a ring-shaped cake). On Christmas Eve, children leave their shoes by the fireplace for La Befana (the Christmas Witch), who fills them with gifts if they have been good, or coal if they have been bad. On Christmas Day, families go to church and then return home for lunch, where they often eat lasagna or seafood.
