Rudolph's appearance in the TV special is based on the iconic image of the reindeer with a glowing red nose. However, in real life, reindeer do not have glowing noses. They do, however, have very unique noses that are specially adapted to their Arctic habitat. Reindeer noses are larger and more elongated than those of other deer species, and they are covered in fur that helps to protect them from the harsh cold. The fur also helps to warm up the air before it enters the reindeer's lungs.
