Charlie Brown Christmas was first broadcast on December 9, 1965. It was produced by Lee Mendelson and directed by Bill Melendez. The special was inspired by the Peanuts comic strip and was originally conceived as a Halloween special, but it was later changed to a Christmas special. It was the first Peanuts special to feature a soundtrack by the Vince Guaraldi Trio. The special is now considered a classic and has aired every year since its debut.
