when do the elf on the shelf come

Elf on the shelf elves are magic elves that visit homes in the weeks leading up to Christmas. They report back to Santa each night with a list of good deeds children have done, or if they have been naughty. During the day, they hide around the home and children can try to find them. The elves themselves are invisible to parents and are only visible to children.
