Christmas was banned in Scotland during the 1600s, when the Presbyterian Church gained power. They saw Christmas as a Catholic holiday and deemed it to be a pagan and sinful celebration. This ban lasted for several decades and was only lifted in the early 1900s. During the time of the ban, it was illegal to hold any Christmas celebrations, and anyone caught celebrating the holiday was at risk of fines or imprisonment. However, despite the ban, the Scottish people still found ways to celebrate the holiday in secret, and eventually, Christmas was officially legalized again.
