Christmas as we know it today has its roots in the ancient festival of Saturnalia, which was celebrated in ancient Rome. The celebration was a time of feasting, gift-giving, and merrymaking, and was a time of much joy and celebration. The Christian church adopted this tradition and made it into what we know today as Christmas. The first recorded celebration of Christmas as we know it today was in the year 336 A.D. in the city of Rome.
