when were christmas tree lights invented

The first electric Christmas tree lights were invented by Edward Hibberd Johnson, an associate of Thomas Edison, in 1880. These early lights were made of small candles which were attached to a wire and powered by a battery. The idea was to add a festive touch to Christmas trees and was quickly adopted by other people.
