where were christmas lights invented

Christmas lights were first invented by Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb. In 1880, Edison created the first string of electric lights to be used for Christmas decorations. He called them "Edison Christmas Tree Lights" and they were made of small, glass bulbs filled with a filament of thin carbonized paper. The bulbs were arranged in a row and attached to a wire, which was then plugged into an electric outlet. The bulbs were initially powered by a dynamo machine, but Edison later developed a DC generator to provide the electricity for the lights.
