Santa's reindeer are named after a variety of mythical or historical figures, including the Norse god of mischief, Loki, and the Greek god of victory, Nike. Other reindeer are named after saints, such as Donner and Blitzen, who were martyrs in the early Church. Still others are named after animals or objects associated with Christmas, such as Comet, Dasher, and Cupid. Some reindeer even have names inspired by the stars and planets, such as Vixen and Prancer.
