why did teddy roosevelt ban christmas trees

"Teddy Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States, did not actually ban Christmas trees. However, he was known for his strict conservation policies and his belief in the importance of protecting the environment. In an effort to reduce deforestation, he did encourage Americans to use alternative holiday decorations, such as evergreen wreaths and garlands, instead of cutting down entire trees for Christmas."
