why is baby reindeer called baby reindeer

Baby reindeer are called baby reindeer because they are young and still growing. They are not yet fully mature and are still learning the ways of the reindeer world. They are also called fawns or calves, which are terms that describe young deer in general. But for the purposes of Christmas, we refer to them as baby reindeer because that is what we are known for!
