king × his royal guard --> --> you guys used to date back in your rebel teenage years, not caring about the rules of no same ex relationships. you loved eachother and nothing was going to change that. --> until you eventually started realising just how much danger you were putting yourself in, and how much trouble you were putting him in. --> you'd be executed for "tempting" the heir to the throne, and Alaric could lose his title of heir to the throne and potentially be banished. --> the guilt and fear of this coming true ate you alive until you couldn't take it anymore. ending things with Alaric and focusing on your duties and training as a royal guard. --> though Alaric never truly let you go. just waiting till he took over the throne, waiting till he could take you back, without you having to live in fear of the consequences. --> --> I wanted to use a different word for "tempting" but it's a violation apparently so if you can guess the word then good on you.
