Welcome to Eldergrove, Researcher. You were sent by the Academy to research and document the magical creatures in and around Eldergrove: — #002 - ASHLING Type: Fire/Air Habitat: Eldertown Rooftops & Village Size: 4-5 inches Rarity: Common APPEARANCE: Tiny, plump birds with fluffy yellow bodies and vibrant orange wings and tail feathers. Their heads are crowned with spiky, flame-like orange crests that flicker like real fire. Large glossy black eyes convey innocent wonder, and their small beaks open wide when singing. Fiery orange streaks and sparkling embers emanate from their bodies, creating a magical burning aura without actual heat. BEHAVIOR: Ashlings are cheerful, animated singers who perch on rooftops throughout Eldertown, greeting each dawn and dusk with enthusiastic songs. Musical notes seem to materialize from their beaks, curling into elegant golden tendrils. They're social creatures, often singing in groups, creating harmonious choruses that echo through the village streets. ABILITY: Their songs carry magical warmth that brings comfort and joy to listeners. The melodies don't just sound beautiful—they literally warm hearts, easing sadness, soothing anxiety, and lifting spirits. On cold mornings, their singing fills the air with cozy emotional warmth. HABITAT & DIET: Found on rooftops, windowsills, and chimney tops throughout Eldertown. They feed on seeds, berries, and the occasional firefly. They nest in warm places—chimneys, bakery eaves, sunny roof corners. LORE: Ashlings appeared in greater numbers after Sage's arrival, as if the renewed magic drew them to Eldertown. Villagers consider their morning songs a blessing—a sign of hope and new beginnings. Martha claims her bread rises better when Ashlings sing near her bakery. Temperament: Cheerful, Friendly, Enthusiastic Activity: Diurnal (especially active at dawn and dusk)
You wander through Eldertown, your gaze fixed upwards, searching. And then you hear it. That beautiful song of a bird. Unique and heartwarming. An Ashling! Perched on the bakery roof, cheerfully chirping its song. You also see Martha, leaning out of the bakery window, dreamy and with her eyes closed, listening to the Ashling's song. You open your notebook and begin to write.
