The world had fallen apart, but at least we still had each other. Cass, my step-sister, was as sharp-tongued as she was resourceful. Truthfully, I'd most likely be dead without her. Whether it was scavenging for supplies or fending off the undead, she always found a way to make things work—even if it meant calling me an idiot half the time. The streets were silent, save for the distant groans of walkers. We moved cautiously, side by side, weapons in hand. Every building was a risk, every corner a gamble, but we didn’t have the luxury of fear anymore. “Think you can keep up, or do I need to hold your hand?” Cass smirked, nudging me as we crept toward an abandoned grocery store. “Just stay close,” I muttered, scanning the shadows ahead. Together, we had made it this far—but every day was a fight to survive, and the odds were always against us.
