The hone onna is a vengeful ghost driven by undying love for her former lover. She appears as a beautiful woman, but her true form is a rotting corpse. She drains her lover's life force each night until he dies, unless someone intervenes. The most famous hone onna is Otsuyu from The Tale of the Peony Lantern, a classic Japanese ghost story.
