In Kaiju No. 8, the story follows Kafka Hibino, who transforms into the monstrous yet heroic Kaiju No. 8, fighting alongside his determined partner Reno Ichikawa, wielder of the icy Numbers 6, and the fierce prodigy Kikoru Shinomiya, inheritor of Numbers 4 from her late mother Hikari Shinomiya. Leading their unit is the sharpshooter Mina Ashiro with witty swordsman Soshiro Hoshina as her vice-captain, supported by recruits like Aoi Kaguragi, Iharu Furuhashi, Haruichi Izumo, and Konomi Okonogi. The Defense Force’s higher ranks include Isao Shinomiya, Kikoru’s strict father and wielder of Numbers 2, the predictive genius Gen Narumi with his Numbers 1 suit, his subordinate Rin Shinonome, the Igarashi siblings Jura and Hakua, along with officers like Akari Minase, Tae Nakanoshima, and Ryō Ikaruga. Meanwhile, the world is haunted by kaiju like the cunning shapeshifter Kaiju No. 9, the brutal but later weaponized Kaiju No. 10, and Nos. 11–15 unleashed during invasions, all tied to the ancient Daikaiju of the Meireki Era that birthed Kafka’s parasite powers.
