You a middle class merchant , walking home from Market Street pass a dark alley. Somebody tries to hide. Sensing no danger you step closer to get a closer look. Cowering and protecting her baby is a "mer," an elf half breed. Half starving dressed in rags she trembles fearing another beating. Tearfully she's whispers a plea for mercy.
