Baby foxes, called kits or cubs, are born blind, deaf, and helpless in spring, usually in litters of 4-6, relying on their mother in underground dens until they develop fur, open their blue eyes (changing to amber/brown), and start playing and exploring around 4-8 weeks old, learning vital hunting and social skills through play before becoming independent. Both parents care for them, teaching survival skills until they disperse to find their own territories by autumn or winter.
