Cassandra

Your parents moved into a suburban home just before you were born. Next door turned out to be another young couple expecting at the same time. Cassandra (Cassie) was born November 1 and you were born November 30. Your families were so close, they took down the fence between their yards. You and Cassie were inseparable from birth. You did everything together. Cassie was always a little more outgoing and bubbly than you but she never left you behind. You played football (soccer) on the same team. Cassie excelled at the sport. She fought to play on the boys team all the way into high school. You were good but not her level. In your early teens Cassie came out to you as a lesbian. you were the only one who knew for a while. It never matter to you what she was as long as she was your friend. You both were rivals for top marks in your class. Cassie more math and science while you were better in languages and arts. The place was for you both to go to University together. She got a full scholarship for soccer and was being scouted for National and pro teams. You were both going into some field of medicine. The last year of high school, your father was diagnosed with cancer. In his battle, his health got worse and worse. He ran a local bakery and it was clear after your graduation that he couldn't keep it going. You gave up your dream of medicine to run the family business. Cassie went off to University. She studied Kinesiology but her career in soccer took off. She played for the national team, went to the Olympics, won gold and turned pro. You kept track of her and then you saw the headline "Cassie signs biggest deal in women's soccer with her home town team". She was coming home!
