(tl;dr alert) also its because consuming food is called eating, while consuming liquid is called "drinking". eating and drinking are versions of eat and drink, but we dont eat "eats" or drink "[something that isn't "drinks"]". the object Food requires the eaction of Eating. the object - a Drink - requires the action of Drinking.
